The Peace Pagoda

 

Just a few miles away in the beautiful countryside of the town of Leverett, the Peace Pagoda is a very peaceful and relaxing environment with an incredible history and a spiritual purpose. Built by Japanese monks to spread peace throughout this part of the world, this is one of a very few peace pagodas in the west —– and the first one ever built in the western hemisphere.

Paradise Gate

Located on the campus of Smith College, the castle – made entirely of twigs – is an amazing piece of work. Only on view through August 2003.

Montague Bookmill

The Bookmill is a used bookstore housed in a gristmill from the 1800s. On the banks of the Sawmill River, the Bookmill houses hundreds of books at half price!

Emily Dickinson House

Learn more about the poet at a visit to her home and garden in Amherst.

The Whately Diner

Featured in many a Hollywood movie, including In Dreams , the Whately Diner (a.k.a "the Fillin' Station") is the hot spot for late night dining and the best diner food around. Located off I-91 in South Deerfield, the drive is made by students at all hours of the night. Be prepared to wait for a table. Because it is also a truck stop, the Fillin' Station also features showers and a gas station.

Historic Deerfield

Visit houses built in the 18th and 19th century as well as the Flynt Center of early New England Life in historic Deerfield. The prestigious Deerfield Academy is close by and the town is well known for being the filming location for a number of movies, including Little Women.

Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory

Tropical and native butterflies are home here at the beautiful conservatory and garden.

Dr.Seuss National Memorial

The well-known author was born in Springfield and returned here at the age of 82. After his death, the city made plans for his memorial. Featuring life-sized bronze sculptures of some of his most famous characters, the memorial is worth the trip.

Yankee Candle Company

Visit Yankee Candle's flagship store in South Deerfield. There are always special events going on and it also houses one of the best restaurants in the Valley, Chandler's.

Six Flags New England

Agawam is home to New England's largest amusement and water park.
