Functional Synergy Yoga Therapist Expands Results, Impact, and Practice

When I was halfway through my Yoga Therapy certification program, my mentor at the time gave me a Somatics session via Skype. I could immediately feel a difference in my body... It felt much more open, with almost no tension! I was really impressed. When that yoga training was complete, I looked into the Clinical Somatics Professional Training Program at Somatic Systems Institute (the school at which my mentor had trained).

I knew this was going to be a huge commitment, of both time and money. I had just completed a two-year program required traveling to Canada from Illinois. Did I want to dedicate this level of energy yet again? Well, after the Skype session (and a second one I requested after that), and after reading Thomas Hanna’s book, Somatics: Reawakening the Mind’s Control of Movement, Flexibility and Health, I was hooked.

Not only have I, personally, reaped the benefits of a daily Somatics practice, my clients have also experienced great results. I now approach each client, no matter what type of pain they’re experiencing, with confidence and the tools to help them get the results they’re after. There is no guess-work involved, no holes in my understanding, and no unsolvable aches or pains or dead-ends. My referral rate increased tremendously, and I more than recouped the cost of the training — within a little over one year!

I am now asked to teach workshops and see clients around the Midwest, which is something I love to do. I call myself the "Somatics Evangelist", helping to spread the word about this powerful work. It breaks my heart when people are suffering with pain, or they have to reduce or eliminate the activities they love to do because of pain. I have witnessed how Clinical Somatics has made a huge difference in the lives of many, many people, who otherwise were unable to find relief.
