Reaching out about the Reconnect

Hello, Somatics colleagues! My name is Bugz and I am a current trainee in SSI's training program. I'm helping to coordinate the upcoming Somatics Reconnect scheduled for the weekend of May 17th, 2015. I'm following up after SSI's original invite to reach out and introduce myself, and to highlight a couple of important (interesting, compelling, exciting!!) points about the Reconnect.

The first is that this event is intended for you, and meant to explore or review subject matter that will benefit you and your practice. To those ends we have set up a special page on the Somatics website that is a dedicated interactive forum for you and other professional community members to access preceding the Reconnect. Please visit that space here to leave requests, start a dialogue, or to let us know about something you would like to present.

The next point is that we have set up a Rideshare board! Carpooling is awesome! If you have room in your vehicle or are looking for a ride, please let folks know!!

The Reconnect counts towards Continuing Education Units (CEU's)! Which brings me to the biggest point:

Since we want these events to be meaningful to you, we want your input!  Here is some more information about the schedule and plans.  If you think it's awesome and you have nothing to change that is fine and dandy... But do let us know what you think either way — because none of it is written in stone, and we want them to always be evolving and improving.  Like i said before these Reconnects are for you, so please feel encouraged to help set the day's agenda:

Reconnect Schedule

First of all, on Saturday, May 16th, there will be a Somatics movement class led by Steve for anyone who is interested in making a weekend of it.  Click here for more information about it.

I know it's been a while since one of these has taken place and there are many possibilities of how we could use the time together.  Thus, on Sunday, May 17th, we have decided on a loose schedule to give everyone a chance to get back into the groove of things.  Here are some bullet points of the highlights (Please let us know if you have any requests or suggestions!!):

  • Informal Meet & Greet time

  • Movement class
We have some options around this. If someone would like to teach a class, experiment with something they've been thinking about, or is generally looking for some feedback — this would be a great time to volunteer!  Otherwise we can take requests for a topic, or if everyone's feeling shy we can come up with one ourselves. Please post to the forum or email with interest to teach!

  • Lunch
For lunch we'll order in so that we can share a meal together. We'll need everyone to pitch in for food. Some combination of ordering in and potluck could be an option. Please post to the forum or email to let us know if you will be wanting lunch or bringing it; and any dietary restrictions so that we can figure out the price and details!

  • Recalibration/Practice time

  • "Steal This Move"
Sharing some of the awesome things that you've figured out along the way in a practice setting.

  • "Something New"
Have you been doing any interesting research, practice, philosophizing, or making other types of interesting connections within the realm of your Somatics practice? This is a time for practitioners to share. Please post to the forum or email with interest so that we can create time slots in case there's enough that we need to fit!

Remember that this can just be a back-up schedule, just in case everyone's feeling too shy or it's been too long and you don't have any suggestions or ideas for what else you would like.

The Next Move is Yours...

Here are all the links you need to Reconnect:

  • The Reconnect event page on the professional community calendar, so you can RSVP for the event.  Or just click here to RSVP.  (Please to do RSVP...It will really help us to plan.)

  • The discussion board, to help create a schedule or contribute to shaping what we do in that schedule. Even just sharing what some of your needs and interests are right now means we can tailor support times, practice times, networking and other activites to better meet everyone's needs.

  • The RideShare board.

In closing, I want to say that I am very excited to meet more practitioners and students. Please do RSVP and email or post with any questions or ideas! Looking forward to meeting you in May!!!
