Somatics 101 One Day Workshop, October 13, 2007

Workshop Teacher:
Description:

This workshop is comprised of 8 individual Somatics exploration lessons, teaching you to release unconsciously held muscles beginning at the center of the body out to the periphery. Participants also learn the Daily Somatic Essentials, a routine that can be done in only five minutes a day, every day for maintaining and continuing to improve your Somatic health.

This workshop is comprised of 8 individual Somatics exploration lessons, teaching you to release unconsciously held muscles beginning at the center of the body out to the periphery. Each one methodically works through a different portion of the body, gently and effectively creating greater comfort, flexibility, and relief from chronic aches, pains, and injuries. The class begins work with the core muscles of the back, abdoment, and waist, establishing and solidifying a strong somatic foundation. After a lunch break, the day progresses on, gradually building towards greater and greater comfort and freedom throughout the whole body, from the hips and feet to the shoulders and neck, bringing in breathing and relaxation, and finally concluding with whole body integration and adaptation of Somatics into everyday movement with grace and ease.

Participants learn the Daily Somatic Essentials, a routine that can be done in only five minutes a day, every day for maintaining and continuing to improve your Somatic health. This routine is the basis for an all purpose approach to flexibility, that can be used to warm up and cool down before workouts, yoga, or even intense athletic competition; the same routine can be used to avoid workplace injury, unwind after a stressful day, or relax before bed to enjoy more restful, comfortable sleep.

This one day version of the Somatics 101 class, taught by the Institute’s director, Steven Aronstein, is a great way for those who can't make it to a weekly class 8 weeks in a row to learn the whole sequence for basic neuromuscular maintenance. If you have done the 8 week program, this is a great way to see how it all fits together and enjoy deepening or refreshing your mastery of these exercises.

There will be a one hour lunch break. The cost is $75 pre-paid, or $80 the day of class.
