How is Clinical Somatic Education related to the Alexander Technique?

Clinical Somatic Education utilizes some of the techniques originally set forth by the originator of the Alexander Technique, F. Mathais Alexander. There is a strong component of learning how to feel and sense tension, and a period of becoming ‘reaccustomed’ to new sequences of movement once tension has been eliminated. However, there are two additional techniques which set Clinical Somatic Education apart.

Isn't Clinical Somatic Education just Feldenkrais with a different name?

While Clinical Somatic Education stems directly from the amazing work created by Moshe Feldenkrais, there are some important distinctions which set CSE apart. After studying with Feldenkrais, Dr. Thomas Hanna went on to study the neurophysiological underpinnings of movement, and began to apply that knowledge to Feldenkrais' work. The result was a system of treatment that combined the intuitive, client-centered approach that Feldenkrais taught, with organized, scientifically based approaches and techniques which resulted in reduced treatment time and longer lasting effects for clients.
