Almost everyone can enjoy hips and shoulders closer to the limitless freedom and fluidity young children do — even people who think they have irreversible problems.  Featuring the crowd favorite known as "Scapula Scoops", this class will teach all people and body types the fundamentals to achieving real ease and the grace of an athlete.  It will also provide people with painful shoulder, hip, and back conditions the tools they need to heal and improve.

Steven Aronstein: Disabled by Fibromyalgia [29]

[29]

In college, Steven Aronstein became debilitated by chronic pain throughout his body, weakness, gastrointestinal problems, and fatigue to the point of immunological & cognitive impairment. At the age of 19, he found himself with less health and function than most 70 year olds. Steven was officially diagnosed by specialist hospitals with fibromyalgia, a chronic illness of the nervous system and joints...

Katherine Kerber, Marketing Executive, Scoliosis & Back Pain [45]

[45]

I was born with scoliosis and a left leg that was 1/4" shorter than my right leg. I was lucky that my scoliosis was an “S”-curve, which meant that my spine was somewhat balanced. I wore a 1/4" lift in my left shoe to even out my hips. From the age of 12 through the age of 18, I kept an annual appointment with one of Chicago’s top orthopedic surgeons...

Releasing Tight Hamstring Muscles [53]

Monday, January 10, 2011, 6:30am

event_member.png [54]

The most common approach to releasing tight hamstring muscles is to stretch. The truth is, forcing a stretch on a tight muscle can cause the muscle to protectively tighten more to avoid over-stretching. Experience a more effective approach to releasing tight hamstring muscles, and relax tight lower back muscle while you are at it - they are related. You will learn how to maintain hamstring comfort on your own. Visit www.owensomatics.com [55] for more information about Somatics.

MONDAY, JANUARY 10, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Back Relief Workshop [63]

Tuesday, December 21, 2010, 12:30pm

event_member.png [54]

There is a simple reason for the high incidence of lower back pain...we have never been taught how to maintain sensory motor self-awareness. Low back pain is commonly diagnosed and treated as a structural problem requiring surgery, medication, or physical therapy. This somatic workshop treats back pain as a functional problem requiring sensory awareness retraining. You will lie on the floor as you are guided through slow, gentle movements designed to reawaken feeling and control over lower back, neck, and shoulder muscles. There is no stretching or force.
