Somatics Group Classes

Attend weekly classes in Somatics to learn movements and routines you can use the rest of your life — for specific problems (such as back pain or repetitive stress disorders), for particular routine needs (such as relieving pain from deskwork or stretching before workouts), or for general somatic fitness. Classes typically consist of 1-hour long meetings weekly for 8 to 10 weeks; some classes may be held several times a week, for those wanting an outlet for frequent Somatics exploration.

If you can't fit a regular weekly commitment into your schedule, or if you want an occasional intensive day of Somatics, you may want to attend Somatics classes when we present them as one- or two-day-long one-time workshops.

These lessons, when performed regularly are designed to teach you to free yourself from pain, stiffness and constriction and to move with greater freedom and grace. Through a series of powerful, yet gentle, movements you can experience the following benefits:

  • Freedom from pain and stiffness
  • Greater ease of movement
  • More energy and vitality
  • Improved balance and posture
  • Increased comfort and flexibility
  • Greater awareness of your body

In addition to whole-body fundamentals classes, there are focus classes for targeted problems and areas of the body (for example, the lower back, the neck and shoulders, the wrists and arms for typists and carpal tunnel syndrome sufferers, the hips and knees, the feet, breathing problems, and more), as well as specialty classes for special needs and demands (for example, classes for athletes, equestrians, students and desk-workers, pregnancy and new mothers, seniors, and more).

During weekly classes you will also learn how to maintain and enhance your own health by learning the “Daily Somatics Essentials” routine. This routine of brief Somatics movements — requiring as little as five minutes a day — refreshes your Somatic intelligence and flexibility — freeing the muscles of the back, waist, abdomen, hips, legs, torso, shoulders, neck, and more — so you can quickly and easily start or end your day, your workday, or your workout right!

Classes are conducted fully clothed, in comfortable loose clothing. Most movement is done lying down on floor mats (although, adaptations are available for persons with physical limitations). Movements are slow, gentle, non-aerobic, and non-strenous. All movements are done with ease and within your own personal comfort range.
