"Somatic Exercises can change how we live our lives, how we believe that our minds and bodies interrelate, how powerful we think we are in controlling our lives, and how responsible we should be in taking care of our total being."
--Thomas Hanna

Come see why Physical Therapists, Massage Therapists, Chiropractors, Meditators, Dancers, Doctors, Athletes, Alexander Practitioners, Yoga Teachers and laypeople alike often call Somatics the most effective, efficient, and enjoyable way to take care of themselves!!

A Special Series of Somatic Exercise Workshops in Boulder, CO
at The Shambhala Center

The Somatics teachings of Thomas Hanna PhD
with guest teachers Jon Aronstein from Somatic Systems Institute and Mary Ann Voorhies

These classes are appropriate for beginners to advanced practitioners, dancers as well as those who can barely move.  The challenge of the movements is internal, so a simple movement can be approached in different ways by different people.
Somatic exercises are slow, gentle and pain-free.  They bring about great improvements in flexibility, coordination, bodily awareness, athletic performance, posture, chronic pain, injury, stress-management, and embodiment.

Thursday January 8, 4 - 7 PM
Principles, Foundations, and Techniques of Somatic Education

A Course for Bodyworkers, PT's, Chiropractors, Nurses, Trainers, Somatic Therapists, Yogis, Movement Educators and those very interested in health care and movement.

Friday January 9, 4 - 7 PM
Somatic Exercises for Athletes, Dancers Runners (and regular people too!)

Learn to free up your whole body for more efficient and graceful movement.  Learn to find and use your body's natural shock absorbing systems in order to prevent knee, foot, hip, and back injury.  Get a whole new way to approach warm-up and stretching that is safer and more effective than static stretching.  Improve natural breathing, muscular coordination, efficiency, and useable strength.  Get over some of the limitations that you may have by working smarter, not harder.  Create a solid foundation on which to build on. Also great for "non" athletes!

Saturday January 10, 9 - 11 AM
SomaYoga: the Easy, Elegant, Accessible "Yoga of the West"

A blend of gentle restorative Hatha yoga , Prime Somatics, meditation and quiet spirituality.
COME AND NOURISH BODY AND SOUL.

Saturday January 10, 11:30 - 12:45 PM
Somatics: The Warmup for Life

This class will teach a basic daily routine that can be practiced everyday.  Based on Hanna's Cat Stretch, what we call Daily Somatic essentials, this routine begins at the center of the body and moves out towards the periphery .  No stretching, no pain, just results, relaxation, flexibility, and bodily-intelligence.

Saturday January 10, 2 - 5 PM
The Myth of Aging: Parts 1-4

Learn the most simple, profound, and efficient way to manage back pain, general tension, aches, pains, injuries, and repetitive stress.  Also learn greater body awareness, gracefulness, coordination, moving from center, and improve breathing and stress management. A great class for beginners as well as Yogis, meditators, athletes, dancers, martial artists, and body-workers.  This class deals primarily with gaining greater awareness, intelligence, relaxation, and efficiency of the musculature of the torso: back, abdomen and chest, waist and ribs, and twisting of the spine.

Sunday January 11, 1 - 4 PM
Somatic Exercises for Freedom of the Neck, Shoulders, Chest and Back

In this class we will learn and practice movements that target the shoulders, upper back, chest, abdomen, and neck.  As always the movements are designed to give greater relaxation, intelligence, coordination, flexibility and awareness of muscles and movement.
Great for those with pain, limited range of motion, postural changes or those who wish to feel greater awareness, increase breathing, and enhance wellness.  The movements are done at your own pace with respect for your own limits and therefore can be applied to all levels of experience. These classes are both relaxing and invigorating!
Participants will leave with skills that they can apply anytime, anywhere to help with pain, for daily maintenance, and to warm up for exercise/dance.
