Health Conditions Helped by Somatics

A partial list of disorders that respond well to Clinical Somatic Education — with some improving or resolving completely in just a few sessions. Explore these topics (in short lists, more detail, or picture grids) to learn more about the science and approach used in addressing a disorder. Contact us to learn more.

Frequent Urination

Chronic tension in the abdominal muscles and the pelvic floor can restrict the expansion of the urinary bladder. When the bladder runs out of room, urination must occur.
Clinical Somatics works to free the muscles surrounding the bladder, thereby allowing it to hold more liquid before the need to urinate arises.
It is possible that frequent urination or incontinence are signs of other conditions, which should be discussed with your Doctor and Somatics practitioner.

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Breathlessess / Shortness of Breath

Chronically contracted muscles of the abdomen, chest, back, and waist can easily restrict the inhalation and exhalation of breath. There is a complicated and beautifully orchestrated pattern of muscular coordination between the diaphragm, the abdominal muscles, the chest, neck, and shoulder muscles, the muscles between the ribs, as well as the back and waist muscles that must occur in order to enable deep and easy breathing.

Successful Aging

Aging has come to be thought of a disease process in it’s own right. We consider the act of simply living on the planet as it’s own pathogen that results in our decline. While the many processes we think of as aging are obviously complex and not entirely understood, we assume “aging" as default cause almost anytime someone has musculoskeletal problems, aches, pains, or loss of energy and function. This is the nature of a “myth”: A myth is a story that may or not be true, but we accept it as legitimate and use it as an explanation for why certain things are the way they are.

Frozen Shoulder / Adhesive Capsulitis

Sometimes interchanged with the term "frozen shoulder", adhesive capsulitis is the adhesion of the joint capsule to the bones of the shoulder joint. While this condition may cause scarring or other degradation of tissues of the shoulder, Clinical Somatics can help to restore the movement of the shoulder in a safe, non-invasive, and gentle way that allows for mobility and healing of the joint with long-lasting results. Most importantly, Somatics can address the functional issues that led to the condition to begin with, and prevent it from happening again.

Hip Pain

Hamstring Pulls and Tension

The hamstrings are a very mysterious place for most people, not an area where we have a huge amount of sensation or proprioception. Hamstring tension, tears and pulls are very common, especially in athletes.

Fibromyalgia
